LUIQ members publish fundamental theorems justifying link-based ranking on the web

In a recent article in Scientometrics, LUIQ members George Masterton, Erik J Olsson and Staffan Angere prove a number of “linking theorems” showing that link-based ranking on the web tracks importance in the limit as the number of webpages grow, given independence and minimal linking competence.

The theorems provide a fundamental epistemological justification for link-based ranking on the web, analogous to the justification that Condorcet’s famous jury theorem in political science bestows on majority voting as a basic democratic procedure.
